Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is Spitfire so Inexpensive?
Spitfire dial-up Internet access is $10 Bucks a month. Not everyone has
a Credit Card, so we offer our customers the convenient alternative of
using their checking account. All accounts are automatically billed monthly
on your Credit Card or Semi-Annual Invoicing, we do not mail out monthly
invoices. This is one of the many ways we are able to keep our costs low
and pass on the savings to our customers. Our services are half the cost
of AOL, Earthlink, MSN, ATT, Yahoo, and others. We use the same networks
and technology they do, but without the massive overhead, and with a personal
touch.
Spitfire has never had a price increase. In fact, since 1996 we have
consistently lowered our price from $20.00 down to $10 Bucks as our telecommunications
and other costs lower. We will continue to lower our price as our costs
decrease.
How long has Spitfire been in business?
Spitfire has been selling 56K Internet access since 1996. We have been
professionals in this industry as long as retail Internet Access has been
sold. Our servers, internal systems, and overall infrastructure are completely
automated. In this competitive and saturated industry we realized long
ago that survival depends on efficiency. Our customers benefit from this
with solid Internet connectivity at a low price. We are under long term
contracts with multiple governmental, municipal, and institutional entities,
although our customers include both businesses and residential consumers.

Do I need special software to use Spitfire?
No special software is required, although we do offer a 2 minute software
download for our less experienced users. This download will present itself
at the end of the signup process and configures your basic dialup networking
configurations for you. If you prefer not to use the software, simply
hit cancel. Either way, your account and email is immediately activated.
From there you will have the option of adding additional email addresses,
initiating your personal Webspace, and setting up newsgroups. Spitfire
provides a standard / raw Internet connection, so once you have set up
your connection to Spitfire, just open Internet Explorer or Netscape and
your ready to browse the Internet.
How do I get email through Spitfire?
After you signup with Spitfire you are entitled to 5 email addresses.
Your first email address will be the username you signed up with @spitfire.net.
You can then add additional email addresses, up to 4 more, after signup.
Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, and Eudora are all 100% compatible
with Spitfire. See our Help section for configurations.
Can I pay by check or money order?
We do accept payment by check or money order, but semi-annual and annual
accounts.
How do I know if Spitfire has a local access number in my area?
With thousands of local access numbers and more being added weekly, chances
are that Spitfire has a local access number for you. Click
Here to find a local access number. It is impossible for Spitfire
to guarantee that a particular number is a local call for you, so please
verify with your local phone company if in doubt.
Can I travel with my Spitfire account?
Absolutely. There is no extra charge to use any one of the thousands
of numbers we have across the U.S.
How fast will I connect using Spitfire?
All of our customers access our Service via 64 Kbps connections. There
are no cleaner, clearer or faster connections available. Your actual speed
will depend solely on your modem and phone line. If you have a 56K modem,
you will be limited to 56K speeds. For more information on speed, disconnect
issues, etc., visit www.56k.com.
What operating systems does Spitfire support?
Spitfire is compatible with all operating systems. We recommend and can
offer tech support on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000/NT, XP, and Apple Mac OS
8 or greater. Spitfire is also perfect for AOL bring-your-own-access and
Web TV.
Does Spitfire offer dedicated access or static IPs?
Nope. We specialize in clean 56K Internet access, that's it. We do not
offer ISDN, DSL, Cable, or T1 Internet access. By focusing on what we
are good at, and not being everything to everyone, we are able to be efficient.
Efficiency equals lower costs and lower costs equals a lower price, period.
Does Spitfire put any kind of banners, ads, or bars on my computer?
No, we do not. Spitfire does not sell advertising and we do not sell
our customers personal information, ever. Sites you may visit while online
contain advertising, but these sites are in no way associated with Spitfire.
Nothing happens once I get connected to Spitfire. Why?
Once you have established a connection with Spitfire, you can then open
up your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) or email program (Outlook
Express). Since no special software is needed with Spitfire, no programs
will automatically load upon connection.
I've uploaded files to my personal web space at Spitfire, but when I
try to access them, I get a message that says 'Forbidden'. Why?
Your personal web space with Spitfire is intended for the creation of
web sites, and not for online storage of files. You need to have at least
one HTML file in your directory, and the first page of your site should
be called 'index.html', or you will receive the 'forbidden' error. For
help with creating web pages, please visit HTML
Primer.
Spitfire has only one dial up number in my area. Will I get busy signals?
One number does not reflect just one line (modem) available for dialing
in. One phone line in your area dials into thousands of modem ports.
