In the last four years the Indiana Lions Eye & Tissue Transplant Bank has had dramatic results in meeting the needs of our patient's waiting for corneal transplants as a result of Routine Referral. In addition, other state-wide tissue banks have had similar increases due to the progressive new program. The Routine Referral program is designed to minimize the burden on hospital staff in identifying potential donors and meet "required request" mandates. The required request mandate recommends Hospitals notify procurement agencies to present the option of donation at the time of death. This is accomplished through a screening process with professional coordinators of the Lions Eye Bank of Indiana..
